Sorry for the lack of updates lately

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the lack of updates of late but I have been rather busy with work and learning to drive (fellow UK readers will know what a pain it is now days)

There is the 3.0 rom still available on my site and I am currently looking at two base firmwares from the imp3 forums for the next release, one is a bugfix of the version I used the other is a slightly different firmware with some extras and a couple of my fixes already present. As it takes a while to english up and then test each rom progress has slowed a bit but I've not stopped and hopefully by the end of this month I shall have a release ready.

  1. That is the news I've been waiting for. I look forward to the next release. My daughter is dying for me to super charge her Novo 8 Advanced.

  2. Hi I've installed your rom 2.3.4 V3.1 and I love it! It fixed an annoying Wi-Fi drop-on-sleep problem on my ainol novo 8 advanced(2.2.1), made it faster, and much cooler!

Only one problem now... my sd card drops on sleep now. It is a SanDisk 4gb and my tablet serial is NOVO8ADVANCED111208GO38458.

To get it to work after it drops I either have to reboot or unmount sd, remove card from slot and plug it back in. If I try to mount after unmounting without touching the card it says "mounting card" then "card is safe to remove ". Not what I expected it to say after a mount attempt!

    1. I have been watching the ICS releases, not sure I want to take the plunge on my primary Novo8 as there are still some fairly large issues that need addressing. If I can get my older dead Novo 8 going that might become the ICS test unit.

  4. I think ICS will be more trouble than it is worth for at least these early stages. I just wish we could get a fix for the SD card issue.

  5. just wondering since im only just new on the android os ... how come ainol 8 can't be upgraded to honeycomb or ice cream OS? can anyone explain this to me ? thanks in advance

  6. Hi sin0ako,

Honeycomb never had an official source release so that was pretty much dead in the water from day one. Ice Cream is a trickier answer, Google have released the source so anyone can build it but the tricky part is getting the source code for the drivers or finding pre-compiled versions of them to drop in. If you look round there is an ICS port for the Novo8 but it's a port from another brand of tablet and very incomplete due to the lack of drivers.

In all honesty aside from the prettiness factor ICS does not initially offer huge amounts over what a decent Gingerbread Rom can offer, thanks to the work of the people's firmware I use as a base we have some pretty amazing features that we never thought would happen for our tablet.

Really Ainol need to take some time out from producing roms for the 7's and make us 8 owners a basic genuine ICS rom, as with the custom 2.2 and 2.3 firmwares myself and the other tweakers can all then do our own thing with it to bring it up to similar levels of the current Gingerbread releases. :)

  7. Hi,

the 3.1 is very well, thx very much.

If I connect TV with the hdmi, i can not use the pointer click on the touch screen, also the double click i can not use. I can only use the navigation button. But some programs need the pointer click.

can you tell me how i use the click? or it is a bug.

    thanks

  11. Hi Andy,

Hows the driving coming along? Got enough petrol??

Just wondered if you had any more progress or updates for us? Am about to reflash my Novo 8 and thought it might be worth asking just in case the next update is not too far off.

Hopefully hear from you soon, keep up the good work! :)

    1. I have been fairly busy of late (still not driving yet) but plan to spend the Easter weekend working on the V4.0 release. I have been holding off from chucking out another rom without really having something new to offer.

The new base rom I have looks pretty good with a few fixes for things people have mentioned and I have been looking into other things like getting better market results and such.

      Watch this space . . .
