Ainol Novo 8 Advanced 2.3.4 Rooted UK Rom V4.0se

No hanging around, it's time for another update :)

First up if you are using 4.1 without issues then there is nothing exciting here for you. This release is specifically for whoever cannot get the 4.1 firmware to behave on their tablet due to the updated touchscreen jitter fix causing their touchscreens to not work. This updated release has the fix from Cheeyee's patch 8d that was made before he changed it to become part of the kernel.

I have bundled the latest Flash player apk into the download as Adobe are meant to be pulling it from the store. Integrating it into the firmware never works quite right because Flash likes to spread itself around so once you have installed the firmware just use App Installer to scan your SD Card and install from there.

Because of the time between 4.0 coming out and this release making an update patch would cause more problems than solve so this is a new full release that will need to be installed from scratch. To make life easier Titanium Backup has been added so you can easily backup and restore your apps, data, passwords and such with minimal fuss.

When installed the Novo8 will show up as 'Ainol Novo8 4.0se Advanced' on the Google Play store, it may take it's time to pick up the Chainfire 3d Market Fixes if you install them. I had to Force Close, Clear Data and reset the tablet before they took hold but once done it worked fine.

Ainol Novo 8 Advanced 2.3.4 Rooted UK Rom V3.1se

After a little hiatus I'm back doing my thing for the Novo 8 :)

First up if you are using 4.0 or 4.1 this is not the release you are looking for :) This release is specifically for whoever cannot get 4.x firmwares to behave on their tablet. Hopefully my refresh of this release will not break as it's not vastly different to the original 3.0 and 3.1 mini-patch.

Because of the time between 3.0 coming out and this release making an update patch would cause more problems than solve so this is a new full release that will need to be installed from scratch. To make life easier Titanium Backup has been added so you can easily backup and restore your apps, data, passwords and such with minimal fuss.

When installed the Novo8 will show up as 'Ainol Novo8 3.1se Advanced' on the Google Play store, it may take it's time to pick up the Chainfire 3d Market Fixes if you install them. I had to Force Close and reset the tablet before they took hold but once done it worked fine.

Flash player download added as Adobe are pulling the plug, I would integrate it into my firmware but it never works right as it likes to spread itself around the Android filesystem far too much, just copy to your SD Card and use App Installer to scan your SD Card and install it.

An update . . .

Hello fellow Novo 8'ers

Firstly I want to say the site is not dead, I'm not dead and neither is my Novo 8. :)

I have not put much time into the rom development of late as my work has been leaving me brain fried at the end of the day so I have not been able to sit down and want to work on it.

I plan to recommence work soon in roughly the following order:

1) Create a version 3.x SE for folks stuck on that version, like Pashby and Nacho who's units refuse to run the 4.x releases for what ever reason this will give you some of the benefits of the later releases within your units capabilities. Main things will be tweaks and updates including the Tegra and Market mods.

2) The 4.0SE release I promised will get done for those who cannot get 4.1 to run due to the touchscreen bug that crops up on certain units. As mentioned before this will be the updated touchscreen fix I was working on before 4.1 along with the Tegra and Market mods.

3) 4.1 will not be updated as a release it was pretty spot on (aside from the touchscreen bug some folks have) Cheyee on china digital has been producing updates to his rom I base mine on at a crazy rate, the differences are too great for a patch to be effective so I shall start with a brand new 5.x release run which will bring me back into line with his base firmwares with all the goodies he has been adding.

Long term I would love to see the features from Paranoid Android added in as that would give so much flexibility to the tablet that it would be a true power users device. In theory using the Per-App-Layout and on the fly DPI adjustments you could have a hires desktop but drop the DPI down a notch when using iPlayer or playing a Tegra game to give much needed performance boosts. This is a personal big wish but way outside my current skills.

My thanks to all of you who have tried my various releases and your feedback. Watch this space . . .

Ainol Novo 8 Advanced 2.3.4 Rooted UK Rom V4.1

A very quick update this time round, release 4.1 was intended to be a patch but after cheeyee's release of patch9 which required a full reflash I quickly dropped the patch and started on this full update. Although only a small change of version number this is a big change in abilities. The big one Tegra game support in the market, follow this guide Tegra Games on the Novo 8 and you can make your 4.1 installation able to see and download Tegra games. I can't include the required software as it's a paid app (but cheap for what you get) and it would still require things to be done after.

Also I have setup a Twitter account for the site check out the box on the right hand side of the page, I shall post updates and all sorts, there might be some randomness as my friends have already latched onto it :)

To keep things short and sweet the Readme will now be kept on a separate page Click Here and a plain text copy is in the download. Check out the Change log/What's New below then get your download and enjoy. No screen shots this time round not really anything different to see.

Ainol Novo 8 Advanced 2.3.4 Rooted UK Rom V4.0

A long time coming I know but here it is the new shiny super duper V4.0 release of my firmware. The main reason for the delay was waiting to find a firmware to base it on that offered something more than just a minor update.

To keep things short and sweet the Readme will now be kept on a separate page Click Here and a plain text copy is in the download. Check out the Change log/What's New below then get your download and enjoy. Screen shots after the download links.

07/04/2012 Version 4.0

Newer base firmware based on cheeyee and tomx2h releases.
English only release, Multi Language may follow
Google Maps will Force Close if you have no active Wifi or Data connection, this is the way the app works and not a bug.
Flash and Skype removed as they only semi worked. You can install these from the market.
Modified Google Play Store gives the best results yet. Still not perfect but improves on last firmware.
Play Store must not be updated, auto updater removed to prevent this. Any updates will remove the modded version.
build.prop altered with HTC Flyer data (closest match to our tablet) again results have improved in the Market.
All included Google Apps, Facebook and Dolphin are latest versions as of compliling the Firmware
Root explorer because it would still give Chinese menus, ES File Manager is just as good when given root access rights.
New Statusbar icons for Home, Menu, Up, Down and Back (See screenshots)
The wallpaper app that was in Chinese I have converted to English, look for 'ICS Wallpapers'
Separate Latitude.apk (now comes with Maps) and Car Home (Too small for our screens)
For UK users iPlayer and latest Flash seem to play Medium quality streams without any problems, High quality is broken in iPlayer by the looks of it as setting it makes no difference over Medium.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the lack of updates of late but I have been rather busy with work and learning to drive (fellow UK owners will know what a pain it is now days)

There is the 3.0 rom still available on my site and I am currently looking at two base firmwares from the imp3 forums for the next release, one is a bugfix of the version I used the other is a slightly different firmware with some extras and a couple of my fixes already present. As it takes a while to english up and then test each rom progress has slowed a bit but I've not stopped and hopefully by the end of this month I shall have a release ready.
